About Us

Text Box: Cork Model Yacht Club (CMYC) was in existence more than half a century ago and back then sailing took place on the Lough in Cork. Model yachts sailed at the Lough largely fell into two classes - the 36 inch class and the Marblehead class. Names associated with the club back then included the late Messrs Ellis, Horgan, Hurley and McCarthy along with others not known at this time. If you have any information on the members of the club back then, the boats they sailed or indeed any further information or photographs you may have we would be really delighted to hear from you at e mail corkmyc@gmail.com.
In recent years a number of sailors commenced sailing the International One Metre model yacht class at Royal Cork Yacht Club at Crosshaven, Co Cork. The numbers sailing have since increased to nine sailors when a number of persons involved in the construction and sailing of scale model yachts joined up with the RCYC group. It was at this stage that the decision was taken to re establish the Cork Model Yacht Club. It was further decided to change the sailing location to Inniscarra Lake where water conditions are more suited to the IOM model yacht class. The assistance of the Inniscarra Sailing and Kayaking Club in accommodating and supporting the CMYC activities is gratefully appreciated.
Two members of the club have represented Ireland in International competitions.
